Motor industry, Terrorism and
Guantanamo Bay...
Where on earth did June,Julyand August go?. I will tell you, funeral; wedding aniversery; birthdays and one year after my last essay Think- A Proposal for major change within the world financial system and matters relating. The reaction to my think proposals has generated some interesting results , like stabilisation of Oil production and its price very near my figure of Euros Fourty Seven, I will be writing on these matters before the Copenargen World meeting later in the year.
September means I have passed the day My blogging joiurney started. 22 August 2008 it was when Grandchildren Henry; Charlie and Lilly came up with that wonderful birthday present to get matters under way, only six journals so far. Slow I admit but then the Australian Government came up with the initiative of saying no one should be excluded from the internet because of their location. Basically they supply and fit a satallite dish, with the recipiant paying the provider.
What a great coiuntry we live in. SkyMesh is the provider; Toshiba the laptop; Google a major player in that my e mail is their gmail----- masonedgar@gmail.com and my blog with them again and free http://thinktrue2008.blogspot.com plus my tutor and mentor one Gonzalo Perez de la Ossa ex Barcelona Spain. Was there not a famous pianist from there Alicia de la Ossa, all I know is the Gonzalo plays the computor like a piano, I must ask him when he gets back from Alice Springs if he is related , who knows in this World.
I have lots of things to talk about in my journals of mal,s thoughts--- I have to get down to Lockerbie and my involvement in the inquiry ; Australias exports of polution products/resources for chicken feed; Perfidy and past World leaders, since 2001 and 911. Eleventh day of the ninth month or the 911 American emergency number, all very clever I suppose.
OK, back to Motor industry and me. Now ,where was I, ah yes my first encounter with Chrysler Corporation in the research laboratory at the Austin Motor Company, Birmingham England.
'Austin of England' that was the call sign in almost any Country in the World.
It was here that I met a chap ,Chin was his name , he introduced me to the Graduate School of Thermodynamics at the University of Birmingham. As normal , thats me I said, forget the garbage of formal applications, straight to the Professor in charge F K Bannister, an affable fello on his own terms that is. I was accepted as there was another fello interested and to bring us up to speed, we did the final degree in mechanical engineering in one year and the Graduate program of study and examinination in their normal one year run. I remember I graduated with relief and maybe confidence above my station, 1959 it was. David Hall my colleague in all this, went on to do great things on concord (engine and engine pods I think), something to do with getting in effect supersonic air down to subsonic before it entered the engines which were subsonic of course.
Another colleage and friend in the graduate course, one Tony Marshall who actually introduced me to Pratrica (Golden wedding in three years) became the General Manager of Chubb Firefighting vehicles at the time of the developeme nt of the monsters for the Jumbo age. Others went on the great things in diverse areas from steel tube manufacture to academia. Goodness the sixties were exciting times when we all seemed to be able to do anything, I even endeavoured to design and actually build a supersonic diffused centrifugal compressor using R12 refrigerant (whoops) for an industrial application---=-=-=- did not work, bugger.
With the can do anything of the sixties I had a short span with a major centrifugal compressor
manufacturer of the brief; design and manufacture of large units. The biggest in the old terms was an intercooled eight stage compressor for Anglo American in South Africa. 20,000 cfm at 80 psi and the smallest my infamous single stage supersonic diffused unit , rescued by the Chief Engineer who somehow modified the casing and its extra cost from the powers that be. He smiled and said there are limits to what we can do. I didn't agree of course, and thanked him nevertheless.
It was at this time that I came up with two other projects , inspired by the derelect remains of a Whittles original jet engine test bed just behind my little office at AEI ltd Rugby England. Numero Uno was the writing of a computor program that combined /Thermal stressing with Mechanical stressing of discs (Turbine and compressor -gas or steam) during run up to speed. We all could calculate the stresses at constant speed but not the critical one of run up. Brilliant it was and used on major projects like the QE 11 steam turbines. Sold to the USA I believe, who I,m not sure. The second was the laying down of the fundaments of what is now known as the Scram Jet again off it
went to the USA, I once made contact with the Austrlian project in Queensland for which a director got some kind of award. I was told to go away, probably thought I was a voyeur of some kind.
It was all good fun, but I was destined to return to the Motor Manufacturing Industry, both The Austin Motor Company (later British Motor Corporation) and Chrysler. Like all keen motor men in the sixties up to about the mid seventies ,we were all trained in most of the divisions of the industry, and thus knew the systems backwards, rose through the ranks as we could me to Export Mamager level with direct access to Directors and CEO's of the time.
Business in over seventy countries, mostly travelling First class, as I was a lone traveller to anywhere in the World that needed attention in Marketing; Service technical; KD production in remote areas and clearing up after Company personnel died overseas and repatriating the person home. That be as it may, one major project of my own instigation following a one off in Sari Lanka (Ceylon), namely the establishment of a World wide truck fleet register, by civil private and government plus military. To do this I also established the first effective segmentation document for trucks including the rising segment of four by four vehicles. Over the years it was all improved by the Motor industry Worldwide. This is very important when I talk about Terrorists and the motor industry.
To cut a long story short I was one of those overseas men who told their HQ's of the rise of the Japanese industry. Me with the news of the assent of Isuzu in Thialand with photos of the first Teak bodied Isuzus truck in Bangkok, chassis scuttles as I recall (still have the photo) and then attended a meeting in Singapore where Toyoto was offering their products to the Bristish Motor Corporations Singapore Malaysian distributor (I was of course unannounced as the man from BMC). The reception at base was hostile to say the least, I think they were going to shoot the messenger, but fortunately calmed down and wanted more detail. Eventually Toyota went on to covet nearly all the BMC outlets Worldwide , what a coup ,they had distribution systems; service and sales system etc established over many years , all in one lovely package, all they had to do was produce the right vehicles and they did.
That was the background to my observations over the years as to the most common vehicles used by Terrorist organisations and rather nasty Regimes around the World from the sixties to this very day. One manufacturer stands out and it is of course TOYOTA in the form of utes and four wheel drives, both utes and wagons.
One has only to watch tne news and say documentry progams to see in abundant terms what vehicles are being driven by subversive organisations to get a picture of the prefered vehicles. To obtain the products they have have suppliers of the vehicles;the replacement parts;service manuals and advice. The journey up the line of supply is the front sales company or individual, the Country distributor (area) ; the importer and distributor; the manufacturer and shipper of the product.
As was explained earlier, there is no doubt at all, that the manufacturer can trace and is in poccession of the destination of vertually every vehicle they manufacture., as in the case of those five hundred Toyoto utes sent to Afghanistan by Saudi Arabia a number of years agoe.and commented by me in 2004 in my essay THINK – An Easy On Governance, sent to World leaders at that time. A bit rusty on volume forcasting these days , so I will give my best ball park figure of 50 thousand vehicles per year World wide.
I believe it is clear that TOYOTA could provide the maximum assistance to anti – terrorist authorities in identifying the where a bouts of purchasers and operators. Toyota is not the only one of course, but the main supplier as I see it. With say Mercedes Benz the favoured vehicle of Heads of State the good and the bad, it is easy and if armoured easier still. No doubt about it the Motor Industry has the means and can help in the fight against Terroism and the bad people in this World. Fuel supply could be followed in a similar manner through the Oil companies by interupting supply routes . The action taken by the forces in Iraq , or was it Afghanistan recently, by attacking and blowing up two tankers killing innocent civilians was irresponsible in the extreme, all they had to do was surround and secure the vehicles on the basis the vehicles this big are somewhat cumbersome and valuable, doesnt seem to bother the Americans, give them a target and bang.
We can all do our part .
Guantanamo. President Obama said quite clearly that the place would be cleared by the end of 2009 and he assigned a person a Mr Freed I believe , what a failure of responsibility by this person, we have witnessed. On 11.Sept 2009 the bbcworldservice – broadcast THE INTERVIEW with this person and at that date there were only 12 prisoners released , some difficulty as to where they could go or who would take them. Why the person had not been fired I dont know, had I been given the job, I would simply ask each person , where do you want to go next week. We can fly you openly ,we can ship you openly to any destination, You can land by walk in or parachute. We did it to get you here we can get you back – easy next week. Mr President you have just a few more weeks to come good on your promise(one of many) please dont let these people down.
That about it for now, goodness me its November already
See you next time and bye for now.
